Building materials industry: Core component of magnesium-based cementitious materials
Core function: Reacts with magnesium oxide (MgO) to form basic magnesium sulfate cement (such as 5·1·8 phase or 3·1·8 phase), which has the characteristics of fire resistance, heat insulation, light weight and high strength, and can replace traditional cement in lightweight building materials.
· Fireproof board/partition board: Mix magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (accounting for about 10%-20%) with magnesium oxide, fiberglass cloth, sawdust, etc., add water and stir into a paste, then press it into shape and cure it. Magnesium sulfate hydroxide crystals form a three-dimensional network structure, endowing the board with the characteristics of fire resistance (fire resistance limit up to 2-4 hours), sound insulation, and high flexural strength (≥8MPa), and are used for interior partition walls and ceilings in buildings.
· Insulating bricks/lightweight blocks: Mixed with magnesium oxide, perlite, fly ash, etc., after foaming, molding and curing, lightweight insulating bricks (density ≤800kg/m³) are made, which are used for exterior wall insulation layers to reduce building energy consumption.
· Artificial stone/decorative panels: As a cementitious base, it is mixed with quartz sand and pigments, cast and formed, and then polished. It can be used to replace natural stone for countertop and wall decoration, with low cost and acid and alkali resistance.
